Here’s S’More Stories for our Halloween Countdown!

Gather ‘round for latest Harper Halloween Countdown and Bat Week spotlight, Bat, Bullfrog, and Bonfire:

Charley Harper’s Bat, Bullfrog, and Bonfire

This spooky lithograph showcases two famous nocturnal creatures: the bat and the bullfrog! This composition is back to the muted tones of blues, greens, and greys. While this is a predominantly duller piece, the bright yellows of the moon and fire give a nice contrast that draw focus to key points in the print.

Another sense of contrast harks back to the strokes of the design. The foliage of the trees are extremely rough and textured, while the water, animals, and silhouettes all have crisp lines.

Bat, Bullfrog, and Bonfire depicts a fun nightly tradition that is common to spooky season: gathering around a campfire for scary stories! This piece calls to mind a famous quote from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, due to the eerie nature and reference to bats and frogs:

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and caldron bubble…

Eye of newt and toe of frog,

Wool of bat and tongue of dog

Make sure to gather around a campfire to spread some spooky cheer as we get closer and closer to the big Halloween night!
